The particular context was among nine Evangelical Lutheran Church in America congregations represented at the November 20002 Power Surge Symposium, conducted by Changing Church, a leadership training ministry of Prince of peace Lutheran Church, Burnsville, Minnesota. The members of the participating congregations were given a questionnaire developed by the Beeson Pastor Team of Kinder, McKee, Law, and Taylor. Data was gathered using semi-structured interviews conducted with interns and supervisors.  Interviews were reviewed for common themes and any correspondence between data gathered and classic homiletic training and New Testament preaching.
