Specifically, this mentoring was geared to four components of spiritual well-being: spiritual development/formation, physical fitness, intellectual fitness, and emotional/relational fitness. This research was a pilot test of a model that may be used in future leadership development. The subjects were the pastors of churches that were visited and where conferences were attended as part of the 2001-2002 Beeson Pastor Program of Asbury Theological Seminary. The findings of this research suggest that mentoring makes an important contribution to the development of pastors. Rev. Neville Gosman met weekly with each of the five men for one year to help these five potential leaders grow into maturity and to meet the critical need at City Heights Church to expand its leadership base. Two separate standardized single-group interrupted time-series surveys were given to all five first time leaders, a control group, and thirty active participants of City Heights Church. It focused on the pastors' personal, professional, and spiritual formation. This research was an evaluative study in a descriptive mode utilizing a pre-, mid-, and post-test design with no comparison. The research consisted of interviews with sixteen church planters who had been mentored and had planted at least one reproducing church.  The findings revealed that subjects viewed their mentoring relationships as a key component in their preparation for church planting and an important factor in their decision to plant a reproducing church.
