factors related to congregational receptivity toward the use of visual media in preaching by exploring factors including generational group, gender, dogmatism, postmodernism, and postliteracy. the study consisted of a researcher-designed, cross-sectional quantitative survey of attitudes toward the use of visual media in preaching. The survey was completed by 113 respondents age fourteen or older at New Hope Community Church of the Nazarene in Tempe, Arizona. A sermon series on the doctrine of covenant may positively influence the practice of the discipline of prayer in the lives of those who seek a deeper walk with God.  The researcher chose to preach this series in the genre of first person biblical characters.  This study describes how the researcher presented a sermon series to a local church congregation utilizing responses from the congregation and a small group to measure changes, if any, in cognitive and/or behavioral practices in their practice of prayer.  This is an evaluation study in the experimental mode which uses a pre- and post-test design.  Two procedures were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention. 1. A qualitative approach involved the use of interview, anecdotes taken from informal conversation, and comments by the participants in the small group.  2. A quantitative approach was utilized which involved the structure of prayer scale developed by Luckow, Ladd, Spilka, McIntosh, Parks, \u0026 Laforett. This study was a quantitative, quasi-experimental study utilizing two churches and two groups within each church, one control and one experimental. The analysis of data collected from the Personal Involvement Inventory determined the impact of visual imagery upon the sermons' ability to involve congregants. The study was a descriptive, correlational study utilizing researcher-designed questionnaires and closing interviews.  Congregational members from ten evangelical churches located in the two largest cities in Kenya, Nairobi and Mombasa, responded to a twelve-question congregational survey.  Fifty-four leaders responded to a sixteen-question pastoral and leadership survey.  Closing interviews with ten pastors added greater insight into the perception of the significance of biblical preaching to church growth. Theological and homiletical biases prevent a suitable definition.  This study proposes that one can define the term inductively using an historical approach.  An examination of a selection of sermons by John Wesley, Charles H. Spurgeon, James S. Stewart, Alexander Maclaren and G. Data was gathered using semi-structured interviews conducted with interns and supervisors.  Interviews were reviewed for common themes and any correspondence between data gathered and classic homiletic training and New Testament preaching.
