As people outwardly respond to the grace of God in a worship service, they meet God in a profound and transformational way, more deeply than they would if they had only responded inwardly. The project initiated an invitational ministry time during Sunday morning worship of Memorial United Methodist Church and Patton United Methodist Church in Franklin, North Carolina. The project develops a ministry team manual based on a Vineyard-style prayer method and trains members to participate in this invitational prayer ministry. During the four Sundays of Advent, 1996, 201 persons responded to this ministry. They report finding love, peace, comfort, joy, and encouragement in the ministry time experience. The program has generated increased faith and a new sense of openness and expectancy among these individuals and the congregation as a whole."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134818762752000,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:41:13.875Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T05:26:11Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:30:42Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4a1eb96d-76b9-4c86-8350-70aabef2a5fd","accessControl_ssim":["b67ecf50-c6db-439b-8cfc-d57c8f4e8334"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["New life for old churches: a multi-case study of four turnaround small Free Methodist churches"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T05:26:08Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:18:01Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4a8f79cf-e0e9-41e6-92a9-87376667cb92"],"hasLease_ssim":["a75e024f-87bf-4260-8d4d-f636faba2b83"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Stephen A Seamands"],"year_tesim":["1997"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Andrew M Haskins"],"publisher_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Free Methodist Church of North America","Small churches","Case studies","Church growth"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project identifies factors promoting growth among older Free Methodist congregations in New York State. Four such congregations, each more than 30 years old, have grown from an average worship attendance of fewer than 80 to an average of more than 125 within a 10-year period. The project devises and administers a Turnaround Church Survey for use in interviewing pastors and lay leaders in these congregations. Twelve factors emerge as significant in the growth of these churches: visionary leadership, quality in music and worship, willingness to change, warm reception of visitors, attendance at growth seminars, removal of obstacles, equipping of laypersons for ministry, prayer, tithing, spiritual renewal, addition of staff, and intentional ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134161986125824,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:30:47.524Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":3,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"Andrew M Haskins","hits":1,"label":"Andrew M Haskins"},{"value":"John Franklin Howard","hits":1,"label":"John Franklin Howard"},{"value":"Michael T Powers","hits":1,"label":"Michael T Powers"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[{"value":"Tests and measurements in religion","hits":1,"label":"Tests and measurements in religion"}],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Case studies","hits":1,"label":"Case studies"},{"value":"Church growth","hits":1,"label":"Church growth"},{"value":"Clergy--Mental health","hits":1,"label":"Clergy--Mental health"},{"value":"Contentment","hits":1,"label":"Contentment"},{"value":"Free Methodist Church of North America","hits":1,"label":"Free Methodist Church of North America"},{"value":"God--Knowableness","hits":1,"label":"God--Knowableness"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":3,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"Asbury Theological Seminary","hits":3,"label":"Asbury Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":3,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"1997","hits":3,"label":"1997"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"Asbury Theological Seminary","hits":3,"label":"Asbury Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":3,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Asbury Theological Seminary","hits":3,"label":"Asbury Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Atla RIM","hits":3,"label":"Atla RIM"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":1,"next_page":null,"prev_page":null,"total_pages":1,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":0,"total_count":3,"first_page?":true,"last_page?":true}}}
