The Project Director presented four training series and a one-day retreat on Spiritual Leadership, the Discipling Process, Practicing the Spiritual Disciplines, and Spiritual Formation. However, the members did not have a working knowledge of the functions of the Holy Spirit in preaching and sermon listening. The praxis director initiated this praxis in an effort to increase the members' awareness of the functions of the Holy Spirit in preaching and sermon listening, and the benefits gained from understanding and articulating those functions. The praxis sought to provide a process of spiritual formation for six men in this church that entailed seminars and individual meetings. The director designed the praxis to be rooted in the ancient soil of biblical restoration and in the ancient practice of spiritual direction. He believed that this was partially due to a lack of prayer regarding the preaching. He therefore led the church in cultivating an atmosphere of prayer for the preaching through deepening his own prayer life, teaching a six-week lesson series on intercessory prayer, and preaching four sermons on how to have a powerful prayer life.
