They have developed coping strategies through their religious faith to deal with this double-bind.  The integration of spiritual disciplines within the context of a psychological group process may be useful in helping African-American women overcome a sense of woundedness and achieve a better quality of life.  The project director led two groups of African-American women from Payne Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church in psycho-spiritual process groups. He preached six sermons, led six dig deeper sessions, and a Lord's Supper celebration.  The projector director used congregational questionnaires and response forms for research and evaluation. The database which the director created for the network contains the names of 28 couples who share the pastoral responsibilities of a local church, and an additional 31 couples who have expressed an interest in this form of ministry. The author compiled data to clarify the church's existing identity, led the church through an educational program, and conducted a leadership retreat aimed at formulating a comprehensive and operational mission statement. The objective was determined through the development of a sermon evaluation form based on a Likert scale.  The project measured six sermons for correlating and disproportion. He tested this through eight, one-hour, weekly, teaching sessions, a four-hour prayer retreat, and by requiring that participants lead a prayer meeting solo.  The results indicated that participants showed growth toward that end.  The Project Director learned valuable lessons regarding teaching for leadership skills, which is markedly different from teaching for content. The director used verbatims, tests, and surveys to evaluate the ministry intervention.
