Throughout the Scriptures and the history of the Christian church, God has revealed his heart for rural people and places. The purpose of this praxis was to encourage and equip pastors for effective rural ministry through biblical, historical, and practical reflection. A group of eight rural pastors participated in a series of four one-hour workshops and a one-hour discussion session. The director was able to assess the value of the praxis through questionnaires and a discussion forum. Persuasive preaching's goal is to convince the listener to align his or her attitude and action with the message of the sermon. This study seeks to discover a paradigm for this. The praxis director chose twelve individuals to participate in surveys and interviews. The director preached a series of four sermons focused on one general theme. After the sermon series, the director conducted a ministry program directly connected to the theme of the sermon series. As a whole, the participants experienced greater levels of perceived spiritual growth while participating in the practice of the spiritual disciplines. The praxis director designed and taught a six-week confirmation program based on the Apostles' Creed with a three-fold purpose of confirmation for those baptized as infants, a new believers' class for those baptized as believers, and an opportunity for youth to learn about the Christian faith and make a commitment. Teaching methods included: storytelling, lectures, handouts, questionnaires, journaling, discussion, memorization, creating hand motions, play, art, music, drama, and Scripture reading. Pastors were encouraged to maintain this perspective by developing a strategy for regularly embracing this new viewpoint in their lives. The pastors participated in three two-hour workshops, and one five-hour retreat. Through questionnaires, evaluation surveys, and discussions, the project leader was able to assess the overall effectiveness of the project. Historically, the deaf community has not been recognized as culturally distinctive within the American Mainstream. This is indicated in the approach to deaf ministry many churches provide. This study will attempt to outline a biblically correct perspective of deafness that leads to a better understanding in developing contextualized religious education materials for the deaf in an Internet setting.
