A woman enters religious life with an identity, images and styles of communicating closeness or distance that were learned and internalized within the family of origin. These become conscious or unconsious means of identifying herself and her role as a religious and of relating intimately with others in a communal setting. Alcoholism is described as 'a chronic illness, psychic or psychosomatic, which manifests itself as a disorder of behavior,' and 'that exceeds customary dietary use of compliance with social customs of the community and that interferes with the drinker's health, or the social or economic functioning.'  it is America's number four health problem, but Black America's number one health and social problem. In the chapter 'From the Roots to the Vines,' the project analyzes the use of alcohol in pre-colonial Africa as a convivial beverage for celebration and how the Triangle Trade became 'a geometrical maze' for Blacks with slavery, alcohol, and profits as partners.  The drinking pattern for slaves was very ambiguous for they were prohibited by law from drinking because it made them rebellious, but were encouraged to drink because it made them docile."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Boston University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["2d58bd09-76d0-4970-b257-d55229e0173e"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799715292480274432,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:44:11.282Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":4,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"Frank Jones Richardson","hits":1,"label":"Frank Jones Richardson"},{"value":"Robert G Murray","hits":1,"label":"Robert G Murray"},{"value":"Rose Clarisse Gadoury","hits":1,"label":"Rose Clarisse Gadoury"},{"value":"Samuel S Bombara","hits":1,"label":"Samuel S Bombara"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Families--Religious life","hits":4,"label":"Families--Religious life"},{"value":"Pastoral counseling","hits":2,"label":"Pastoral counseling"},{"value":"African Americans--Religion","hits":1,"label":"African Americans--Religion"},{"value":"Alcohol","hits":1,"label":"Alcohol"},{"value":"Alcoholism","hits":1,"label":"Alcoholism"},{"value":"Church group work","hits":1,"label":"Church group work"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":4,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"Boston University School of Theology","hits":4,"label":"Boston University School of Theology"}],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":4,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"1981","hits":2,"label":"1981"},{"value":"1982","hits":1,"label":"1982"},{"value":"1985","hits":1,"label":"1985"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"Boston University","hits":4,"label":"Boston University"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":4,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Boston University","hits":4,"label":"Boston University"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Atla RIM","hits":4,"label":"Atla RIM"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":1,"next_page":null,"prev_page":null,"total_pages":1,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":0,"total_count":4,"first_page?":true,"last_page?":true}}}
