Women clergy are more likely to address the issue because of specialized training in graduate courses, conferences, workshops, or seminars on domestic violence. It uses family systems and object relations theory to support the research.  The project does not provide a comprehensive premarital counseling program but does present a model developed within an Episcopalian context.  The practical research is done by questionnaire-based interviews with twelve couples who experience the genogram as the primary framework for their four to six session premarital programs. Active listening, articulating personal needs, triangulation, and four ego defenses, drawn primarily from Virginia Satir and Murray Bowen's ideas, were explored through verbal presentations, skits, and discussions.  As a result, the participants were better able to identify potential problem patterns of communication.  They were also able to successfully apply this learning to their marriages one month later. The study discusses the traditional Chinese family-orientation and its continued influence in the values, attitudes and behavior of the English-educated, urban middle-class Singapore Chinese.  The introduction of Western cultural norms through the process of modernization was readily accepted as a basis for marriage and family life.  However, the continued influence of the traditional family-orientation was to be a significant cause of dysfunctional marriages among these couples. Diocese of Manchester","Marriage counseling"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purposes of this descriptive-evaluative project were: 1) to offer the crisis-intervention theory as a rationale for the Toward Marriage Program and Ministry to the Engaged, and 2) to determine the effects of the program on attitudes, communication and help-seeking patterns of former participants now married.  Methodology included the use of self report statements and tests (Marital Communication and Support Systems Inventories).
