Active listening, articulating personal needs, triangulation, and four ego defenses, drawn primarily from Virginia Satir and Murray Bowen's ideas, were explored through verbal presentations, skits, and discussions.  As a result, the participants were better able to identify potential problem patterns of communication.  They were also able to successfully apply this learning to their marriages one month later. Stagnancy here means failure of marriage partners to experience growth through the marriage experience.  Couples will change and grow as they learn concepts of family systems theory.  The church must be an organism in society preventing mental and emotional illness.
