The aim, through individual interviews of pastors and a group session, was to determine if there is a recreation of family of origin issues by the pastor while interacting with the church. The conclusion is that there is strong evidence of the unconscious projection, onto the difficult church, of pastors' personality dynamics, developed in relation to their family of origin and triggered by the personality dynamics of the church. An 'interpretative context' is present whenever persons attempt to communicate. Therefore, preaching is affected by the interpretative contexts of both preacher and hearer. Study of biblical texts, prior to their development in sermons, afforded pastors and congregations opportunity to become aware of contextual gaps. A sermon review process allowed for evaluation of the gap-bridging process.
