The purpose of it was to test to what extent interculturality is vital and essential to the Dehonian charism, and how it can be effectively implemented within Priests of the Sacred Heart initial formation in the United States. Because this project deals with experience, culture, and tradition, the author has decided to employ the method of practical theology of James and Evelyn Whitehead.  The Whiteheads’ method encourages reflection upon these three elements of life, experience, culture, and tradition, and brings them into correlation to the moment of implementation. The result of this profound reflection and discernment emerges in a pastoral response. He bases this assertion on results of interviews conducted in three midwestern seminaries.  He demonstrates that an intercultural approach to seminary formation is consistent with church documents on seminary training, as well as with contemporary theology.  The author explains at length the essential cultural categories necessary for gaining an understanding of cultural difference, which is the key to intercultural communication. The Whitehead model (Method in Ministry 1995) is used. Chapter one presents a brief history of seminary formation and selected current ecclesial documents. Chapter two focuses on mid-life and faith development theories. Chapter three contains student and alumni survey data. Chapter four brings the components into dialogue.
