The meta-method employed for this thesis-project involves the four “movements” of the “pastoral circle” developed by Joe Holland and Peter Henriot, with two additional steps—engagement with theory and correlation. The process included both a broad approach and a personal outreach to those working in the African American and queer communities. Direct outreach to various parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago entailed making phone calls, sending emails, or stopping by a total of 32 parishes. In the end, three focus groups were conducted. The moderator completed all the necessary IRB paperwork and permissions prior to the session meetings. The moderator encouraged participation from each participant in order to elicit information from every single person in the group. To facilitate the discussion, questions were presented to allow the participants to reflect on and share their experiences. Genograms were used to help the participants consider the impact of their personal family history on themselves and their children for several generations back. The project presented and answered the following questions: Does the Archdiocese of Chicago play a role in helping fathers understand how to raise their children, how to fight stereotypes they face about their fatherhood, and how to share their spirituality with their children in a way that interrupts patterns of violence and confronts the social issues they encounter? A two-tiered program was developed to address the concerns that were presented through the course of the project to provide agency for fathers in developing their own spirituality."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b51273d2-7ff5-4ecb-af24-64508c2367ad"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129025562804224,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:09:09.048Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:23:21Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:12:41Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"6a0cf6af-09e2-42f8-8906-2c0d00146944","accessControl_ssim":["2e8da87f-5ddc-4de1-9683-6f3768a7256f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Embodied Contemplative Practices Within a High School Religion Curriculm"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:23:20Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:14:10Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["3f512c58-27a0-474d-b825-1136bf8c4780"],"hasLease_ssim":["241c66a8-3384-434d-8390-c8f779fe0c8d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Educating for Witness"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"advisor_tesim":["Christina R. Making use of critical pedagogies and its constitutions and statutes, the author attends to the community's tradition, the lived experience of Redemptorists, and the U.S. cultural milieu. The author formulates a process of formation that reimagines an exclusive focus on the individual, positing one that is community centered and dialogic. He addresses three different formative moments for pastoral response; the novitiate, transition to ministry, and ongoing formation.
