Assuming that some uses are better than others, the project seeks indices for evaluating materials, personnel and programs related to the lectionary. A form of factor analysis is judged the most appropriate method for discovering the indices.  An interpretive perspective is illuminated by a contrast between two distinct theological currents within contemporary Catholicism.  The lectionary is situated within one current, as are its appropriate religious education uses.  Data gathered in sixty-one interviews are reported and interpreted. Its purpose is to give the 'person in the pew' an understanding of the movement.  It consists of eleven lessons taught by the author in an experimental class in the church he serves as a minister. The study centers around the development of a method of resourcing which provides for the sharing of ideas and information within a denomination's middle judicatory jurisdiction, in this case the Chicago Metropolitan Association of the Illinois Conference of the United Church of Christ.
