She presents herself as in desperate need of affirmation.  The woman feels that she is not in control of her life and is a failure in both her profession and her marriage.  The author uses object relations mode of therapy to treat the woman.  He integrates this approach with theological aspects which are suggested by Paul Tillich's writings.  The client's husband joins her in therapy.  This addition contributes to the building of a satisfying marital relationship. For adolescents from a variety of family backgrounds results indicated that both parent images contributed to the God concept.  This God concept is consistent with the developmental stage functioning of the patient.  The patient experiences communication with the God concept as simultaneous with the combination of communication with both parental images.  Tillich's perspectives on judgment, acceptance and transformation as well as his concept of the God beyond God are brought to bear on the studies. It gives a working definition of healthy spirituality.  Four case studies address the significance of individual values, guilt, anger, and grief as they relate to anxiety and pain.  The theological rationale for the project is based on Paul Tillich's threefold description of existential anxiety. The study indicates that chronic pain is more often the result of life history than medical history.
