To be successful, preachers need to consider what makes for effective and helpful example stories, because stories can be a window to the core idea of a sermon.  However, many preachers have difficulty finding good example stories when they prepare sermons.  This project examines selected passages in Paul's writings from a homiletic perspective.  Paul's metaphors and analogies have some recommendable elements and provide standards for selecting example stories.  Paul's marriage and potter analogies in Romans and the planting and running metaphors in 1 Corinthians are excellent examples for contemporary preachers to follow.  Two Korean pastors who are very famous for their impressive and influential sermons also have distinctive example stories within their sermons. There are some commonalities and differences among them. The author combines practical suggestions for contextual preaching with perspectives from theological, missiological, biblical, and cultural studies. He claims that preaching is more effective when it is rooted in the context of the audience. The author illustrates this claim by analyzing four sermon samples, which embody some aspects of the religio-cultural ethos and communication forms of the Yoruba. This process can be called the contextualization of preaching.  This contextualization begins with two areas. The first area is about the external conditions which are derived from the immigrant context.  Based on an analysis of the Korean-American context, the Korean-American preacher should attempt the proper coordination between the context and text, and suggest the hermeneutical contact points in which the context (congregation) meets the Word of God. In this thesis it is emphasized that the work of the Holy Spirit in preaching is the foundation to make preaching possible.  One of the major problems in preaching is its dryness and weakness, for preaching deals with dry biblical exegesis on the cognitive level rather than spiritual crisis.  This project combines practical suggestions for more effective and powerful preaching, supported by the Holy Spirit, with an understanding from perspectives based on biblical understanding on the work of the Holy Spirit in preaching and in writings of John Wesley and Karl Barth.  The major work of the Holy Spirit in preaching is to make the objective reality of revelation the subjective reality; consequently, preachers and audiences come to believe the text is written for them and overcome the purely cognitive level in preaching. The Kosin denomination follows Calvin's Reformed faith.  Thus, the Kosin denomination pulpit tends to be more oriented toward addressing the divine goal of God in preaching than in addressing the human goals.  There needs to be a balance between these two trends in preaching.  Authentic preaching means combining divine and human goals. The Korean church needs an impetus in its own reformation.  Preaching can become an impetus of reformation.  This project studies books, periodicals and analyzes the results of boom generation","Preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Effective preaching is a major factor in determining where baby boomers go to church.  This project seeks to discover approaches to mainline denominational preaching that effectively communicate to the baby boom generation.
