During a six-month period, twenty-four lay leaders utilized Participatory Action Research by engaging in cycles of planning, action, and reflection. Findings from the project included characteristics of effective leadership, leadership expectations, and the importance of resolute action to achieve initiatives for revitalization. This project presents a model that engages in strategic planning and implementation of an Afrocentric NCD from a holistic standpoint.  The planning for an Afrocentric NCD provides for a new paradigm for the North Georgia Conference (NGC). The biblical foundations seminal to such an NCD and the theological contours of mission Dei serve as a framework. The context within the UMC and a specific geographical area are explored and developed. Colonialism and worldwide enslavement of Afrikans has contributed to the systemic destruction of Afrikan history, culture, and religious traditions. Interviews were conducted with members of the Village Church in Nashville, Tennessee to access the impact of Eurocentric interpretations of the Christian faith in the development of their faith. Liberals are very cautious about being too involved in healing and deliverance.  Liberal congregation members go to fundamentalist healing centers, and return on Sunday mornings to their own congregations.  This project investigated views from churches with members of African background about their belief in healing and deliverance.  We discovered that many of the church members and pastors prefer the term 'healing' to 'deliverance,' for they believe that the latter scares some people from participating. The first members of the McClintock Church faced the poverty, prejudice, and persecution which surrounded all ex-slaves in the South as they adjusted to their new political freedom.  Special attention is given to the missionary efforts of the Freedmen's Committee of the Old School Presbyterian Church as it sponsored pastors and teachers in the South. The founding pastor of McClintock Church was the Rev Samuel C Alexander of Shirleysburg, Pennsylvania.
