Bioethical education is best done in a balance of justice and relationships channeling both the works of Gilligan and Lawrence Kohlberg. By engaging with the people most affected by bioethics, those who are disabled, students are able to build empathy through case studies and thus make better informed ethical decisions. This project centers around a curriculum written  for high school students studying bioethics. The author used basic qualitative research tools to plan and execute a four-week class with participants ranging from fourth grade to senior adulthood. Each class addressed one or more of the desired outcomes listed above. The author focused on a particular congregation and ways in which small Bible study groups affected the cultural understanding of members.  She examined the complexities of culture and the significance of building relationships.  She worked with Paul Kimmel's definition of cultural understanding to examine the growth in understanding of persons utilizing a method called 'African Bible study.' The session members agreed upon goals for the confirmation class and learned how those goals were used to design the course.  The members were challenged to assess the confirmands' progress by viewing online reflections, meeting with the confirmands weekly, and guiding the writing of personal statements of faith in the final class. Historical, religious, sociological and ecclesial contexts are described. The qualitative methodology includes a survey, transcribed interviews and a focus study group that engages Robert Webber's worship perspectives from Ancient-Future Faith: Rethinking Evangelicalism for a Postmodern World.
