Historic Christian traditions have been co-opted into Pentecostal Eucharist traditions for 100 years; because Pentecostalism is burgeoning all over the planet, now is the time for such a theological contribution. This thesis builds upon the work of Simon Chan by affirming and critiquing evangelicalism's theological superimposition on Pentecostalism as it pertains to eucharistic theology. Chan's model is used to suggest how Pentecostals can construct eucharistic theology germane to their context and congruent with their broader theological claims. Further, it examines epiclesis as an aspect of eucharistic theology and notes its natural intersection with Pentecostal theology as the inroad to an expanded theological dialogue. The thesis discusses the implications of an American Pentecostal eucharistic theology in light of the poor. Historical research documents the role of storytelling in Protestantism and the decline of narrative in Pentecostalism since 1875. The dissertation addresses a crucial question: How can the Pentecostal faith be perpetuated in the most effective way?  The proposed model for Pentecostal Christian formation is grounded in the community of faith paradigm espoused by John Westerhoff. It utilizes the spiritual and liminal power of the Pentecostal worship service for transformation and formation.  It exploits committed and caring relationships in a covenant community.  The model for Pentecostal Christian formation is supported by a major discussion of how Pentecostals know God (epistemology). The focus of attention will be on the Church of God which is the oldest, continuing Pentecostal denomination in the United States.  The premise of this thesis is that a theology of pastoral counseling is found within the Wesleyan tradition by which the Holiness and Pentecostal movements were shaped.
