Worship is one aspect of congregational life where the values of Western secular culture are deeply embedded; changing the expectations surrounding worship may be pivotal for the deeper transformation of congregational culture from an inward, institution-maintaining focus to an outward, missional orientation. This project is a case study of one congregation where such transformation is already underway. The paper incorporates a qualitative research method to help adherents explore instinctive and counterintuitive approaches -- to affirm one's innate spiritual tendencies and intentionally stretch beyond them. Research for this report included conversations with three pastors and five elders over three two-hour sessions. The Church claims a theology of communion of the saints which is exemplified in the sacrament of the Lord's Supper. However, it has not significantly crossed the cultural divide. This paper examines the understanding of two of these church communities, one Mexican-American and one Anglo-American, regarding the Lord's Supper. Wallace Hamilton an effective deductive preacher so that contemporary preachers may improve the effectiveness of their own preaching. This project also discloses the characteristics of Hamilton's preaching, which would be ineffective for the contemporary preacher. Fred Craddock's inductive preaching method informs my critique of Hamilton. Research for this project includes interviews with those who heard Hamilton preach, analysis of Hamilton's sermons, and feedback from those who listened to sermons by Hamilton and Craddock.
