A survey was developed allowing for an accurate picture of the church in relationship to the ten elements that promote a healthy church. The effectiveness of this 12-week study was measured by a seventeen-question survey, administered to the 30 students, three separate times, in addition to some homework assignments.   The design allows the student to take a spiritual journey that will change the way one sees himself, thus changing the way he views others. Two hypotheses were proposed. A case study for this project was from those completing a new members' course at the Independent Presbyterian Church in Memphis, TN.  Data was collected by way of survey with questions pertaining to the biblical aspects of community, purpose, and structure. Specifically, it is believed emerging leaders who participate in a leadership course focusing on character development will express a higher degree of willingness to enter into leadership. Twenty-five adults participated in a course entitled, ' Character Formation in Spiritual Leaders', a study focused on God's role in shaping the character of His people. From this analysis, six principles have been identified contributing to numerical growth: a church-centered life, conservative theology, dedicated pastors, prayer meetings, small group meetings, and the homogeneous unit.  The writer seeks to discover the correlation between the implementation of these principles and church growth.  By comparing the rate of growth between those churches that practice these principles with those that do not, a valid judgment was made whether a correlation exists between the adherence of these principles and church growth.  The writer's hypothesis was not supported.
