While not all churches fall under this generalization, the evidence presented in this project suggests many fail to celebrate or acknowledge the Spirit's presence in their worship services, sermons, and classes. However, the research conducted in this project shows a positive relationship between a biblical course on the doctrine of the Spirit and an increased knowledge of the doctrine, positive attitudes toward the Spirit, and an increased personal reliance upon the Spirit. The project evaluated the effectiveness of a four-week seminar in educating Christian women on the topic of spiritual gifts. This course of study focused on spiritual gifts and their functions for women who may or may not have known of their spiritual gifts and may or may not have served in ministries or were serving in ministries outside of their spiritual giftedness in the church. By taking thirty Christian women, ages nineteen and older of various church denominations through this course of study, the women gained knowledge of spiritual gifts. A pre-test/post-test was administered to the students to gauge their knowledge of spiritual gifts before and following instruction. This data revealed an increase in knowledge of spiritual gifts. Also, a spiritual gifts assessment was administered to assist in the discovery of their spiritual gifts, and the one-on-one ministry interviews aided in identifying other ministries in which the women were able to serve."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130996046823424,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:40:28.249Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T17:57:34Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:24:40Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"20f339ee-47ee-4b1a-b16c-34b48a76c5b7","accessControl_ssim":["95253386-1a34-4a2d-858a-8d346aa39a83"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The development and evaluation of a theological class for understanding and communicating the essential doctrines of the Christian faith within the local church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T17:57:33Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:06:40Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["977269a7-19f6-45ae-904b-c3dd223e1b6a"],"hasLease_ssim":["f8eacc79-3ffc-4edf-a76e-63d283fde607"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Glenn R Kreider"],"year_tesim":["2018"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Christopher J Hopf"],"publisher_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Theology, Doctrinal--Study and teaching","Christian education of adults","Educational evaluation"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The aim of this research is to identify the problem, but to also offer a solution (an eight-week theology class) that will aid the church in teaching her members key theological information to help them know why they believe what they believe. The evaluation is based on interviews with ten members and attendees of First Christian Church in St. Francis, Kansas. The interview questions probed the nature of a potential connection between pastoral visits to encourage spiritual growth, that is, growth in comprehending God's Word, having one's convictions shaped by God's Word, and having one's conduct increasingly transformed by God's Word, and substantive spiritual growth as so defined. Dr. Grant Kaul has done excellent research to validate the relationship between an intentional expository sermon and spiritual growth in the church family he serves as senior pastor. His intentional expository sermon plan focused on the book of Revelation. First, that spiritual growth was measured in terms of an increased comprehension of biblical content. Second, spiritual growth was measured in terms of an embracing of biblical convictions and values which are the source for a Christian's conduct. Third, spiritual growth was measured in terms of personal conduct increasingly aligned with both biblical content and convictions. Building upon that research, this author proposes to validate a relationship between pastoral visits and spiritual growth for the church family presently being served in the areas of biblical comprehension, biblical convictions, and biblical conduct. In addition to an intentional expository sermon plan to encourage the spiritual growth of a church family, pastoral visits can be a tool to further reinforce that spiritual growth. This qualitative research, carried out by interviewing church members and attendees, demonstrates that pastoral visits, in addition to expository preaching on Sunday mornings, further enhances the spiritual growth of Christians."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131064670879745,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:41:33.694Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:04:01Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:36:46Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ab40570f-edb6-412f-8495-0864b2ff9371","accessControl_ssim":["98282223-3bed-4fbb-b2e4-af8e8c17c55b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The Metanarrative of Scripture: A Program Development and Evaluation Measuring Associated Increases in Biblical Comprehension, Hermeneutical Aptitude and Attitudes towards Scripture at Ethnos360 Bible Institute"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:04:01Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:04:36Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["42d2628e-e302-43b7-93b8-374206ab1a74"],"hasLease_ssim":["b16c8416-c429-4565-bf8d-3fde6e6f7e72"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Stephen Bramer"],"year_tesim":["2018"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Based on a review of the literature, there are three major areas of Christian development that are linked to the metanarrative of Scripture: (1) comprehension of the Bible, (2) hermeneutical aptitude, and (3) positive attitudes towards Scripture. It was hypothesized that a course on the metanarrative of Scripture would demonstrate associated increases in these three areas. This project developed such a course for Ethnos360 Bible Institute, and measured the effectiveness of this course to impact areas of hypothesized growth. The method chosen for this research project was a program development and evaluation. Informed by the literature and consultation with various Bible teachers and missionaries, a course was created that developed the major plot-line of the Bible and called attention to the ramifications of that plot-line to comprehension, hermeneutics, and attitudes/values. To measure the effectiveness of this course, an instrument was developed and implemented as a pre-test/post-test. The instrument provided quantitative data that was analyzed and evaluated in this project. The data verified all three of the hypotheses, finding statistically significant increases in biblical comprehension, hermeneutical aptitude, and appreciation among students who took the course.
