The basis for the research project was to both qualitatively and quantitatively discover if preaching has a measurable impact on a congregation's engagement in missions. The researcher conducted a presurvey and two postsurveys in conjunction with an eight week preaching series on 'God's Heart for the World' to identify the impact of preaching on the church's existing involvement in missions. There are some distinct qualities of an effective introduction that encourage listeners to give serious attention to a presentation and relate to its message in a personal way.  This researcher postulated that the use of enacted dramas in order to introduce messages would enhance the listener's/viewer's level of listening attention, translating into an enhanced retention of the message.  The research process extended over three periods, making a total of twelve testing weekends, and was conducted in De Pere, Wisconsin. The self-disclosure is that of first-person stories. Undergraduate Bible College student ministers often turn to their own lives as a source for sermon illustrations. Sometimes their self-disclosure lacks discretion. By paying attention to the self-disclosure critque form, student ministers can accelerate their maturity in disclosing with discretion in their use of first-person stories. Fifty-three volunteers of Venice Bible Church, (Venice, Florida) critiqued eleven sermons.  The listeners' learning styles were assessed using the Gregorc Style Delineator.  Four preaching styles were designed to correspond to the four dominant learning styles. They fail to show how the preaching of the Word has anything to do with going to work, raising a family, paying bills, or any of the myriad of problems that we face today. The question then is, what is relevant preaching?  A biblically relevant sermon is a sermon that meets needs by relating the principles of Scripture to the human condition. This project used active research in the form of questionnaires to elicit the response of the congregation to felt-need sermons. Each principle was developed from exegesis of relevant selections of Scripture.  A worship project of five and one-half months involved the membership of the First Baptist Church, Laramie, Wyoming, as a test for the use of the principles.  Based on the response from worship surveys and use of worship guides, the principles were determined as valid for application in the three stated categories. Content retention was measured through a pre- and post-test.  Personal impact was measured by interviews.  A series of ten sermons was preached, evenly divided in style between narrative and propositional.  It was concluded that the actual content was more important than the form it was presented in.  Neither form rated higher in specific impact.
