The research was conducted by means of individual interviews with both oral questions and printed word-pairs regarding the participants' parents and their current and childhood God-images. The data showed that the survivors' God-images generally did have characteristics similar to mothers. A methodology of in-depth interviews with three 'post-anorexic' (physically recovered) women was the foundation of this qualitative study. A coding table linking shame, female identity, and the mother-daughter relationship allowed for quantification of the data. The results indicated deep shame around female identity, although the anorexia appeared more an effort to break free from a shame-bound self than a symbol of it. Five hypotheses tested the essential factors that make up quality pastoral counseling: 1) self-reflection; 2) psychological issues and theory; 3) biblical stories and tradition; 4) theological integration; and 5) the ability to formulate a treatment plan. At the end of the training course trainees wrote a detailed case analysis based on a scenario presented via video tape. These analyses were used to test the hypothesis. The author found that the Ashbrook-Karl method helped early pastoral counselors develop their self-reflective abilities which increase their self-confidence and ability to learn and itegrate psychological issue and theory. With more seasoned counselors the method helped them get in touch with what is pastoral."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["fc8e637d-6b92-421f-936e-4844dc981265"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134328894259200,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:33:26.699Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:12:00Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:36:22Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4aa01666-821e-495d-8ebe-303c2e602ca9","accessControl_ssim":["2bf3394b-18c6-47ab-8d5f-d466e5a014e2"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The small church as right brain community"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:11:57Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:19:13Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9c9341cb-b2c4-48d5-b20b-c02600e84c0b"],"hasLease_ssim":["70f70e41-7898-4948-bb62-0dcd0c03e093"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Douglas E Wingeier"],"year_tesim":["1989"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Mary Margaret Thiel"],"publisher_tesim":["Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Small churches","Brain","Psychology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project tests the hypothesis that small congregations exhibit characteristics of immersed right brain mind-set as identified by James Ashbrook.
