In the process of this growth, a change takes place in the person's image of God.  The methodology incorporated a modified case study in which a six-item questionnaire and follow-up interview were used with selected subjects.  The population selected for sampling consisted of sixty women who had the experience of spiritual direction for at least one year.  From these sixty subjects, four were chosen for a face-to-face taped interview.  Portions of each interview are incorporated in the study. A review of the literature for father-daughter incest includes a discussion of assessment criteria, as well as a review of recovery themes: self-esteem issues, exposure of the secret, reality shaping, experience of grief, and feelings of guilt and shame.  A review of the literature for forgiveness explores the dynamic formulations of key theologians and a discussion of the themes of: empathetic blessing, acceptance and expression of self, dealing with the past, and restoration of wholeness.  A single case history of pastoral counseling is explored through the use of verbatim accounts and a q-sort instrument which validates the experience of adjustment and forgiveness. Forgiveness is discussed as operating dynamically through memory, experiences of shame connected with empathy, responsible personal stewardship, an awareness of the dynamics of the incestuous family and the therapist's self-awareness. These dynamics operate as fluid themes. While the results did not establish such a relationship, they do argue for a possible relationship between God-image and the Millon (MCMI) dependent self-other orientation at the suggestive level of interpretation.  These results, which were obtained through contingency square analysis with chi-square, were bolstered by parallel diagnostic data. There are many common feelings, ideas, sensations, and behaviors among the bereaved, but they will be uniquely individual in their expression. It was based on the theological affirmations that true preaching extends the work of the Incarnation; that worship provides experiences including: providence, faith, grace, repentance, communion, vocation, and an awareness of the holy; and that the thrust of all pastoral work, including preaching, is the communication of the love and acceptance of God.  Ten people met for an hour each Sunday, discussed the sermon and reviewed the Scripture for the next week.  A feedback form was given to the congregation each week.  The results were more effective communication, better constructed sermons, and more effective integration of preaching and pastoral care. Included is the study of thirty-one women from a suburban Roman Catholic church, the subsequent presentation of findings on a matrix, and four case studies of women who showed a predominance in one of the phases of individuation, i.e., symbiosis, practicing, individuation, or distancing. The research designed is quasi-experimental using a pretest, posttest and comparison group.  It is an outcome study. Total participants in the study numbered 68.  Statistical analysis consisted of an analysis of variance and linear step regression of gain scores.  The research hypothesis was affirmed at the .05 level of significance.
