It will show that public prayers based on preparation have a biblical foundation and can be very powerful in ministering to the listener.  Thus the prayer leader has a tremendous responsibility.  The necessity for sufficient preparation of public prayer as well as understanding the audience will be explained.  While benefits to the corporate membership can be derived through effective public prayers, the prayer leader, himself, will be a special beneficiary. The training has three objectives for the project participants: (1) increase knowledge of the origin, culture, character, theology and religious practices of the target group; (2) develop skill in witnessing; and (3) persevere in witnessing. The project engaged an eight phase process which included the following study: (1) theology of witnessing; (2) knowledge of basic history, culture, and theology and religious practices related to witnessing; (3) presentation of witnessing module; (4) and how to persevere in witnessing.  Testing instruments were also developed to test all goals and objectives. The project consisted of ministry during a Western Pacific Deployment aboard USS Shiloh (CG-67) from August 17, 2000, until February 17, 2001. The project leader developed a program consisting of worship, religious education, community outreach, counseling, and deck-plate ministry for a mixed gendered crew that consisted of 430 sailors, chief petty officers, and commissioned officers. As a result, the crew experienced the free exercise of religion and a community of sharing. The project consisted of conception, development, implementation, and evaluation phases. A major emphasis of the project involved developing a theology and theory of spiritual direction that would communicate to Pentecostal pastors. This was presented in a seminar to a select group of Assemblies of God ministers from the San Francisco Bay Area from January to April of 2001. The author and the participants prepared for the implementation of the ministry by using instruction on Christian and Buddhist doctrines, case studies, and the FAITH process in ministry and witnessing. The author and the participants then discovered physical needs of selected Japanese Buddhists. These partners are the Baptist ministry center directors, state baptist conventions/fellowships, and local Baptist associations. The practical means of developing the partnership was the development of an assessment tool for the ministry centers. Once the tool was developed, it was field tested in seven Baptist ministry centers. The testing was also done in partnership as the various partners came together at the centers for an on-site visit and assessment. Their party-indoctrinated worldview presented obstacles in comprehending the gospel. There is a need for a training model to equip the Christians to understand their mentality and be able to present the gospel to them. This project is a twelve session hands-on training seminar. It provided a support structure for the participants to pray for and engage in evangelism. It motivated the participants with the biblical mandate for cross-cultural evangelism. It equipped them with the necessary knowledge for communicating the gospel.
