I designed and ran a pilot workshop for high-school students in home-based education, with a goal of offering training in boundaries, skills, and habits that allow for positive interaction with popular electronic media. A study of the biblical motif of sojourners and exiles provides a theological framework against which different models of Church and Culture are compared. It is found that Christians, as sojourners and exiles, embrace an alternative identity as the People of God, yet function as bona fide participants in their broader cultures, through which the missio dei is advanced. A robust eschatology prepares the Christian to navigate the inherent tensions and difficulties. A study of many efforts at formation around media identify three strategic categories into which these efforts fit, namely cultural abstinence, cultural conversation, and faith-formative practices performed within the Christian community. An eight-week media workshop was designed as a synthesis of these different practices, with focus on a Media Rule of Life, five skills of cultural conversation, and five corresponding spiritual practices. This thesis argues that a greater number of youth can be retained if the preachers have a positive ethos with the youth. This thesis analyzes the Armenian evangelical community and outlines reasons for both negative and positive ethos. Through personal experience, interviews and surveys, a clearer picture of the role of the preacher emerges. The project took place in the context of the high school youth group of Northview Bible Church in Spokane, Washington.  It included biblical teaching and interviews of Christian professionals followed by voluntary student participation in a survey and in focus groups to measure understanding and plans for implementation. The paper's thesis is that a model can be developed to reach suburban Chinese-Canadian youth (SCCY), ages 14-18, in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. First the paper defines suburbia, its characteristics, history and trends. Next the project's theological foundations are presented with the argument that the church can minister to SCCY. Relevant publications are reviewed. Toronto suburban living's impact on SCCY spirituality is examines. The variables measured were: recall, communication, attention, stimulation of thought and emotion, persuasion, and enjoyment.  Groups of students saw either a multimedia presentation or a slide presentation and were compared to a control group, which saw no visual elements.  The multimedia group outperformed the control group, while the slide group performed oppositely. This paper will take a look at today's urban youth culture and at why it is so important to reach them with the gospel while they are young.  The author will present a theological framework for urban youth ministry, providing a biblical basis for a culturally relevant ministry to kids.  This project will also examine ingredients for an effective urban youth ministry by utilizing a 'hexagoning' research process based on systems thinking. These sermons are designed for use during an outreach camp setting. The author reviewed the state of adolescent culture and wrote a theological case for proclamation and incarnational ministry. A basic framework for evangelistic message sequences is offered and a message sequence along with seven manuscripts were written. In August 2004, these sermons were presented during four camp settings. They were revised and presented again in April 2006 and August 2006 during three camp settings. The research focused on studying adolescent development, leadership, learning styles, and curricular design through analyzing four curricula currently in use with adolescents.  The research was evaluative in nature.  Data were collected through sixty-minute phone interviews and by developing an evaluative grid from literary research.  The grid provided a consistent process to analyze the curricula.  Leadership with adolescents is either strongly emphasized or ignored in the evangelical Christian church.  Teens are seen as a resource and should be placed in positions to make an impact today, according to the collected data.  A strong philosophical base of adolescent development theory, leadership theory, or learning styles theory did not exist in the models. All the approaches incorporated theoretical pieces within the areas of study. There was a lack of consideration for teen maturation needs when presenting the information.  Social support was not integrated into the fiber of the programs. First, a biblical examination of the legitimacy of the office is undertaken.  If, in fact, one is going to take the title of 'pastor,' what does that mean?  A brief study regarding the primary responsibility of the 'pastor' as a teacher of God's Word is examined.  The first chapter closes with a theological study of the significance of teaching in an expository manner. The exact definition of expository preaching is then evaluated, especially as set against what is commonly referred to as 'topical preaching.'  The way in which expository preaching fits into the ministry of a youth pastor committed to God's design for ministry is then discussed.  A five-chapter manual follows for training youth pastors in expository preaching. The first chapter revisits the job definition of a youth pastor -- according to God.  The second chapter seeks to clearly lay out expository teaching/preaching as the only legitimate manner of preaching -- for it has at its heart the understanding, communication, and application of the authorial intent of the passage.  Chapter 3 focuses on seven specific principles of hermeneutics.  It is designed to assist youth pastors as they seek to determine a biblical author's intent through exegesis.  Chapter 4 discusses how to convey that intent into an adolescent's world, using the Ladder of Abstraction.  Chapter 5 addresses twelve guidelines for writing a message with the youth culture in mind.
