It relates the journey of an established white congregation reaching out to its diverse neighbors with Christ's love and bringing them into its fellowship. It describes five phases during those 10 years, each with its respective challenges and breakthroughs. It argues that multiethnic congregations constitute the New Testament ecclesiological norm rather than those formed by the homogeneous unit principle because they more fully express the nature of the church and its reconciling gospel and have a missional advantage in bridging to Hindu, Buddhist and Muslim populations who have migrated into their communities."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130923808325632,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:39:19.357Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:26:21Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:41:10Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"608a74a3-5d54-49db-ba78-0b6f315ecf99","accessControl_ssim":["28ab3c0f-a0cf-4d0c-900f-7cf2faabd9cf"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["William Seymour: herald of a multiethnic pentecostalism"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:26:21Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:57:41Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["1a16095b-d568-4108-83b9-b3325c8b6ede"],"hasLease_ssim":["e8f33e3c-249c-4fcf-8c43-67a22c318f6f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Garth M Rosell"],"year_tesim":["2012"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Gary-Jason Bryant"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Seymour, William Joseph, 1870-1922","Race relations","Clergy--Biography","History","Azusa Street Mission","Ethnicity","Cultural pluralism","Pentecostal churches"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Within these pages the author examines the life and ministry of the Azusa Street Revival's primary leader, William Seymour. Though born into a world that held tightly to race segregation, Seymour's ministry gave a glimpse of heaven where people of 'every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation' forever worship God together (Revelation 5:9). And though Seymour's childhood included Hoodoo cult influences, he grew into a man who sought only the power and glory of God most high. By placing emphasis on the sociological conditions of Seymour's time and reviewing how this man's early life impacted his ministry training and his eventual leadership of what became a worldwide phenomenon, the author hopes to better understand the role ethnic diversity and culture played in the outpouring at Azusa, seeking to grasp how it impacted the Pentecostal movement and the body of Christ as a whole."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131044082089985,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:41:14.059Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:00:04Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:02:14Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c71f503e-6f6c-471c-ac05-ee8eb958dc33","accessControl_ssim":["98590922-4170-442e-ac93-81b76f957c36"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Moving towards multiethnic ministry through transformational leadership"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:00:03Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:50:56Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["76e6ab2f-8383-4242-81a7-0ac3415c3b08"],"hasLease_ssim":["0f6c0c18-d33f-42e9-9e73-14de1eebe565"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Steven W Klipowicz"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Gregory L Cruell"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Cultural pluralism","Christianity and culture","Race relations","Church","Church--Unity","Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Many sociologists and anthropologists have stated that by the decade 2050-2060, there will no longer be a majority culture in America. Although progress has been noted concerning ethnic and racial relationships among America's citizenship, it is also clear that our nation must continue to move forward in breaking down ethnic and racial barriers that still divide. This dissertation proposes that the solution to what still separates one racial or ethnic group from another begins in the multiethnic church through transformational leadership. The multiethnic church or many diverse people, influence, motivated, stimulated and considerate of God's design for humankind, assists in moving the church and ultimately our nation to become the answer to our Lord's prayer in John 17:11: 'Father, make them one as you and I are one.'"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132368854056960,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:02:17.460Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:02:41Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:58:30Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b8998cab-afca-444c-8661-f9ad8244f130","accessControl_ssim":["8292490b-a7e5-43df-b5d4-16a28a936d94"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Affirming ethnicity, combating ethnocentricity: foundations for training Christian leaders"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:02:41Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:27:13Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["db09e6df-7f13-406a-b3c8-bc9a243c8271"],"hasLease_ssim":["3a850db3-5968-45ac-a553-27141f379e31"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Timothy C Tennent"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Paul M Borthwick"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Christianity and culture","Race relations","Theological anthropology--Christianity","Nationalism--Religious aspects--Christianity","Ethnicity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["A challenge in cross-cultural leadership development is affirming cultural, ethnic and indigenous identity while simultaneously challenging ethnocentricity.  This examination affirms biblical teaching which simultaneously endorses cultural particularity while affirming the universality of humanity under God.  This universality is based on creation, God's redemptive plan for all nations, Jesus' death on the cross, the establishment of the church, and the eschatological vision of the multi-cultural assembly in Revelation 5:9 and 7:9.  Implementing this unity-in-diversity includes identifying sinful tendencies to find our identity at the expense of others, caring for the 'outsiders,' participating in God's redemptive plan, working towards reconciliation, and taking initiative to live out the 'new humanity' described in Ephesians 2:11-22."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132134677676032,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:58:34.132Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:02:30Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:32:52Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"39c0c409-53b8-4bb1-b83d-9d9a0ff440f9","accessControl_ssim":["986862ff-fd95-42ea-8a97-25f72437d86b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The graves are not silent: a case study of repentance, racial reconciliation, and spiritual renewal"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:02:29Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:48:18Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6c25d5cf-24ab-495c-8dc3-615f97fc2215"],"hasLease_ssim":["321cfecc-72af-4ab5-94f9-bf7e70455a02"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Garth M Rosell"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["David B Humphrey"],"keyword_tesim":["Reconciliation (Theology)"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Reconciliation","Race relations","Theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["After describing a case involving the recent rediscovery of historic, unmarked African-American gravesites on land formerly owned by a local congregation, the author develops a practical theology of spiritual renewal through repentance and racial reconciliation. The ultimate aim of this project is to develop a model of congregational life that previews the glory and worship around the throne of God."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132926867406848,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:11:09.623Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:20:14Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:33:51Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3fb585e4-4f3d-4385-be8b-647dbd2a6f2a","accessControl_ssim":["daedcc53-b4d9-4bb6-9360-f85157551906"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Towards a postmodern approach to urban ministry: multi-ethnic leadership development at Cambridge Community Fellowship Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:20:13Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:58:47Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["91248da9-07ab-4245-99cb-0ec51c34b044"],"hasLease_ssim":["0035506f-c32a-4cf6-9d1e-545d8b613829"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Eldin Villafañe"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Soong-Chan Rah"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Race relations","Postmodernism","Evangelical Covenant Church","Minorities","Church work with immigrants","Cambridge Community Fellowship Church (Cambridge, Mass)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis seeks to study leadership development and spiritual formation in the context of a postmodern, multi-ethnic, urban church.  The complex system of Cambridge Community Fellowship Church served as the case study for this project.  The framework for this study is provided by Eldin Villafañe's hermeneutical circle, which progresses as clarification (clarify the issue and the challenges at hand), conceptualization (applicable theological and sociological analysis), and confrontation (principles or next steps of addressing the issue).  Clarification involves examining two of the central elements of CCFC, its postmodern ethos and its emergence from the immigrant experience.  To that end, postmodern culture was studied from various angles.  Additionally, the development of second generation ethnic American identity was also studied. Conceptualization involved the movement towards developing a relevant postmodern theology applicable in the urban context. Conceptualization also involved the application of systems thinking to unpack the system of CCFC in order to address specific issues at CCFC.  Confrontation calls for the development of strategies and principles to address the various issues.  The dramatic changes occurring in the demographic and cultural aspects of the American church call for an examination of the issues related to ministering to postmoderns, developing multi-ethnic ministry and ministry in the urban context."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130582336405504,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:33:53.704Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":8,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"David B Humphrey","hits":1,"label":"David B Humphrey"},{"value":"David G Hoke","hits":1,"label":"David G Hoke"},{"value":"Gary-Jason Bryant","hits":1,"label":"Gary-Jason Bryant"},{"value":"Gregory L Cruell","hits":1,"label":"Gregory L Cruell"},{"value":"Joseph Paul Knight","hits":1,"label":"Joseph Paul Knight"},{"value":"Paul M Borthwick","hits":1,"label":"Paul M Borthwick"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[{"value":"Reconciliation (Theology)","hits":1,"label":"Reconciliation (Theology)"}],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Race relations","hits":8,"label":"Race relations"},{"value":"Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","hits":3,"label":"Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity"},{"value":"Reconciliation","hits":3,"label":"Reconciliation"},{"value":"Christianity and culture","hits":2,"label":"Christianity and culture"},{"value":"Church work with immigrants","hits":2,"label":"Church work with immigrants"},{"value":"Cultural pluralism","hits":2,"label":"Cultural pluralism"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[{"value":"United States","hits":1,"label":"United States"}],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":8,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary","hits":8,"label":"Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":8,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"2007","hits":3,"label":"2007"},{"value":"2005","hits":1,"label":"2005"},{"value":"2006","hits":1,"label":"2006"},{"value":"2009","hits":1,"label":"2009"},{"value":"2011","hits":1,"label":"2011"},{"value":"2012","hits":1,"label":"2012"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary","hits":8,"label":"Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":8,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary","hits":8,"label":"Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Atla RIM","hits":8,"label":"Atla RIM"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":1,"next_page":null,"prev_page":null,"total_pages":1,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":0,"total_count":8,"first_page?":true,"last_page?":true}}}
