This investigation attempts to uncover the factors contributing to the problem many seminary-trained American women face in locating suitable employment in ministry positions. The investigator explores this problem as related to the status of women in American culture; Christian (particularly evangelical) culture; the religious landscape in America; church history; evangelical and fundamentalist theology; churches, denominations, and academies; the emerging church movement; seminary recruiting and placement practices; and student debt. The investigator designed and delivered a seminar to female students at two evangelical seminaries to address the problem of ministry placement for women. This thesis will explore the sociological, historical, biblical and theological reasons that unequivocally discourage women from using their ministry gifts of teaching and preaching the Word of God within the context of the church.  The author used two surveys and a hexagon focus group to gather data.
