The local church is God's plan for this age and the local church should feature biblical preaching. That being the case, the preacher that a church calls is the most strategic decision made by a particular local church. Pastoral Search Committees are motivated to pursue excellence in the pulpit. However, there are essentially no available resources designed with the goal of motivating and equipping these search committees to call pastors who will preach expository sermons. This thesis-project designed a manual for that specific purpose. The manual was taught as a Sunday morning elective in a local church. This resulted in a greater vision for expository preaching amongst church leadership and the overall church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130789135515648,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:37:10.923Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:22:18Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:08:11Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e1838acb-00bf-41fa-b99e-ad5dc903aeb7","accessControl_ssim":["0dec8afc-0e71-435a-b9a1-6a115f45aa38"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Mobilizing Spanish believers for cross-cultural ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:22:14Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:35:11Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8b410ca8-0250-49e2-822e-5c0250cc93a5"],"hasLease_ssim":["7e5081ee-b873-466b-8c68-737b4f26abac"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Peter Kuzmic"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"location_tesim":["Spain"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Christopher J Matthews"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Strategy","Christians","Missions--Theory","Christianity and culture","Missions"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Thesis statement: Spanish believers who imitate the Trinity in cross-cultural initiative, who adhere to an adaptation model of missions, who follow the strategies of cultural integration, leadership formation and theological reflection, and who learn within an empirical environment will mobilize for cross-cultural ministry. The church's primary mission is carrying out the task of fulfilling the Great Commission, and the New Testament concept of discipleship is the primary focus of the church's ministry. The New Testament concept of discipleship is imitating Christ to become like Him in love, obedience, and good work; thus, the goal of the church's overall ministry is the believer's Christian maturity to the fullness of Christ. Committing one's life to Jesus Christ and faithfully following Him, and leading others to be His disciples is true Christian ministry: as practiced by women to women, this is true women's ministry. Women following Jesus Christ and becoming disciple-makers in a theology for effective ministry to women. Mobilizing women to live out that theology is the Christian practice for women in the twenty-first-century church. But Jesus did not stop with servant leadership. He took his leadership with the disciples to the next level when he stated, 'I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from the Father I have made known to you (John 15:15). This thesis develops the idea that leadership modeled after the ministry of Jesus, which includes the ingredient of deep friendship, is more effective than leadership that does not include friendship. In developing this idea, this thesis examines the reasons leaders have often avoided friendship and how doing this has compromised their effectiveness. It presents research from over one hundred surveys, showing how friendship has been central in the development of leaders (both clergy and laity alike). It also examines historical and contemporary writings on friendship to support this idea. This thesis shows that intentional friendship results in increased effectiveness and is essential for a leader who strives to follow Christ."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130881352531968,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:38:38.868Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:21:47Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:51:22Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"933e39d8-652d-4f0c-832b-81d761cbcc2a","accessControl_ssim":["c488f36e-da54-45c4-9951-da42ca27e750"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Mars Hill ministry: understanding and using culture to impact the emerging generations"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:21:44Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:26:37Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5397ee06-32a8-48ab-89a7-3a1fde7148c1"],"hasLease_ssim":["5b3e5279-b842-48fd-92cf-be80ee7d4442"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Gary Parrett"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Walter Mueller"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Evangelistic work--Biblical teaching","Christianity and culture","Bible. It is concerned with questions related to the emergence of the postmodern worldview, the impact of the postmodern worldview on the emerging generations, and the development of a biblically based missiological paradigm for understanding, engaging, and reaching a culture shaped by this worldview. The study examines the mission field of the emerging generations, their postmodern worldview, and how that worldview shapes their lives. The study continues with an examination of culture along with a biblical theology of understanding and engaging culture. The study lays out a biblical paradigm for engaging the postmodern generations that is based on the Apostle Paul's engagement with the pagan Athenian culture in Acts 17. A series of appendices enlists the paradigm in practical examples of engagement with several contemporary icons in the world of today's popular music."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131684580622336,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:51:24.886Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:21:44Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:02:47Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ca0321da-6ec9-4af4-bfd7-b0dea1449cfa","accessControl_ssim":["220bdaf0-66f5-4892-bacc-0353d727cccf"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Evaluating leadership development curriculum based on learning context feedback"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:21:43Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:56:01Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["cdf38090-a8eb-4b35-9c0f-3f5db1202b3f"],"hasLease_ssim":["2f09ff0f-d130-4861-a8da-62b9315573c2"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2006"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Steven W Klipowicz"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Education--Curricula","Christian education"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis is a qualitative, evaluative and formative study of the Arrow Leadership Program utilizing identified Christian formation learning objectives from 143 learning contracts prepared by program participants over five years. The thesis is an attempt to be a resource for hands on training to make this preaching a lifelong task. The thesis begins with chapter one outlining the need for Christ-centered or Gospel preaching. Chapter two supplies the theological basis for Christ-centered preaching. Chapter four sets out the homiletics course focussed on a '5C Gospel grid': clarity of the whole, coherence of the parts, correspondence of salvation themes, centering on Christ and challenging with Christ. The course is based on the sermons in Acts as a pattern of Christ-centered preaching. The final chapter summarizes what the author learnt through this study."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131761502060544,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:52:38.244Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:21:14Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:40:10Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5b462570-c008-42f4-8087-59a07769dcb2","accessControl_ssim":["a065a924-920d-470f-98a0-cd5fc985db42"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The transition of a long-term African American pastor and its effect on the ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:21:13Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:48:44Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["093bca53-0a95-4b5e-9691-42bc497f14be"],"hasLease_ssim":["a19861c1-7abd-4af2-a2af-b0a4292210bb"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Douglas Hall","Judy Hall","Alvin Padilla","Gregg W Detwiler"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Neal E Pearson"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","African American churches","African American clergy"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The following work is a systemic study of the dynamic relationship between pastors and their congregation during the period of pastoral transition. Pastoral leadership is one of the fascinating challenges facing the 21st century church today. This thesis is not an exposition of the theology of congregations or of church ministry. It attempts merely to describe and analyze what Dr. Eldin Villafañe refers to as 'the hermeneutical circle of social ethics.' This systemic point of view involves three steps, which ask three basic questions: Clarification -- what is significant about this issue? Conceptualization -- how do the Bible and precedent literature ground this project? Confrontation -- what are the recommendations for further research? In the introduction and chapter one, we do the first step by carefully looking at the social relevance present in our society that relates to the issue. In chapters two through four we carry out the second step by consulting other precedent research sources and doing theological and system reflection. The third step involves developing a clear strategy consistent with a systems view of reality that relates to the first two steps. The primary premise of this work is that long-term African American pastors and their congregations must plan for pastoral transition. In so doing they ensure consistency and continuity of the overall ministry of God. In failing to do so, they will miss a rare opportunity to come together to help the people of God transform."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130980514267136,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:40:13.436Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":766,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"Dissertation","hits":5,"label":"Dissertation"},{"value":"Thesis","hits":2,"label":"Thesis"},{"value":"D.Min.
