The non-deterministic nature of the urban context and the disciple-making process is evident throughout this study. The author believes that the term 'revival' has been misunderstood in view of the biblical meaning and needs to be redefined for the modern church. We can be renewed by focusing on the fact that God has sent us a Savior and being Christ's body here on earth. Churches can turn this concept into an action plan for their congregation by instituting a program that honors Christ's methods of discipling and the activities of the historical revivalists, appealing to the whole person: head, heart, and hands. John Wesley's class meeting system was successful because it focused on these elements. The Navigators are a modern-day example. It consists of interviews and follow-up conversations with people who are lay leaders in their respective church communities. The result of the research was that most people were challenged to think more biblically about brokenness and how God is working redemptively in the midst of it."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131146322444288,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:42:51.563Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:58:25Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:55:03Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a569403f-46dd-4b63-82e1-aa1c46a196cb","accessControl_ssim":["f94be31d-d1e5-4cb6-bd51-d08aa76588dd"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["New structures for effectiveness in the Presbyterian session"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:58:24Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:56:00Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a6add2bb-1b46-4cd6-83d4-91d0e3083539"],"hasLease_ssim":["bc67f503-b2d9-4aaa-98de-a5bf118273d4"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["J Kent Edwards"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John E Schmidt"],"keyword_tesim":["Relation (Theology)"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Congregations","Postmodernism","Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)","Government","Church renewal--Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)","Elders (Church officers)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis-project examines the relationship of the numerical decline of denominational churches in contemporary American society and the lac of structural renewal in these churches. This thesis-project shows how changes were made to the session of a PC(USA) congregation to attempt to improve effectiveness, and a policy manual growing from that experience was disseminated to other church leaders for their opinions. The researcher presents a theological motivation for churches to pursue changes in the leadership structure of the session. After examining modern and postmodern paradigms, the writer asserts that accommodations to the modern paradigm do not meet the demands and expectations of ministry in a postmodern context. The writer then proposes missional values and structures to enhance the effectiveness of the local church in the postmodern context. A detailed case study shows that these structural changes increased the effectiveness of a local church's ministry, increased the satisfaction of its leaders, fit PC(USA) polity, and could be applied with profit in other church situations."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131917135904768,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:55:06.668Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:57:55Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:30:41Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"2de7de5b-d694-4c59-a9e4-3ecec241cabe","accessControl_ssim":["def5cbc6-4887-4054-bda9-acde213151c9"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A manual to help house church leaders in China understand and teach the biblical doctrine"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:57:54Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:28:25Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4ebfea2a-70c3-4f20-ab23-1df168d3a796"],"hasLease_ssim":["317256b4-75fb-433f-84c9-217d01e41466"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["David A Currie"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Yan Xiong"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Christians","Christian education of adults","Bible","Handbooks and manuals","House churches","Bible--Study--Methodology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis presents a rationale for training Chinese house church leaders. The author believes that a true and concise biblical manual will train the Chinese house church leaders, who in turn can help house church Christians to understand the Bible in a way that will eliminate heresies, strengthen faith, and lead them to the kingdom of God. The author researched widely in terms of books, articles, and trustworthy websites. He used a narrative approach as this best suits the subject matter.
