The purpose and intent of this thesis is to offer suggestions to male preachers on how they can more effectively relate the sermon to women as a segment of their audiences so that Christ may reign more successfully and intimately in their hearts. A closer look at relevant passages in the scripture shows that the validity of such a concept is questionable. A biblical theology of marital oneness is developed that shows God's original intent for a married couple was to procreate and have dominion over the earth together as equal partners. Hierarchy in marriage as seen in many marriages throughout history is a result of the fallen condition of humankind, not the original blue print for marriage as designed by God. By skimming over this common experience of the human condition, they devalue the redemptive meaning and significance of the death and resurrection of Christ. In contrast, Holy Scripture -- and its central figure, Jesus -- never avoids the subject. The author of this thesis proposes a biblical and theological view of suffering, contending that preachers should not avoid the all-pervasiveness of this human condition, but rather assume its presence in their audience. In doing so, they can more faithfully preach the redemptive death of Jesus himself. Included in this work is a book proposal and outline for an ensuing/consequent book, Preaching Christ with our eyes open: proclamation through an apologetic of suffering. The author investigated relevant historic and current literature and drew on his own experience and the experience of other preachers through primary research. The book proposal and outline was sent to preaching ministers. He proposed that applying the rhetorical analysis by paying attention to the unique features of the narrative genre may help alleviate this problem.  He then carried out a field test with a teaching course designed to train Chinese preachers to apply rhetorical analysis to biblical stories. If this statement is true, then both science and scripture reveal God to us. His attributes of love, goodness, reason, and logic are reflected in both. But if there is no God and evolution is true, then neither nature nor the Bible has anything authoritative to say to us about life. If moral sanity is to be restored to the church, and thus, the world, it is absolutely imperative that the two books of God be reclaimed. Both are supernatural. Both reveal God's character. However, there are certain aspects of the doctrinal sermon that require special attention. In 'The preparation and delivery of expository doctrinal sermons,' the reader will learn the biblical basis for teaching doctrine and preaching doctrinal sermons. Chapter one details a problem in evangelicalism with the neglect of doctrinal preaching. Chapter two provides the theological framework. This project will also examine ingredients for an effective urban youth ministry by utilizing a 'hexagoning' research process based on systems thinking.
