Mircea Eliade, Victor Turner and Paul Ricoeur provide the theoretical framework for congregational change, tested through direct observation, congergational focus groups, a survey, and interviews. Findings indicated that metanarratives are effective vehicles for conveying and shaping the church's values and identity, serving a corrective and evaluative function, renewing and healing. Dicussion includes the institutionalization of congregational myths, the role of the pastor, andn the relationship of myth and scripture."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Hartford Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8e52e4c8-38b6-4846-872d-a744b4f5725d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126019409707008,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:21:22.158Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:16:37Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:00:46Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"9158ef36-b733-4311-8656-6f4066a747dc","accessControl_ssim":["60558264-9724-4468-affa-e363e15edf30"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The practice of testimony at the Church of the Redeemer, United Church of Christ, New Haven, Connecticut"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:16:33Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:23:15Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["91fe74e6-cef2-4d5d-a2e3-0434415cc2f1"],"hasLease_ssim":["93a72f60-1f9a-4521-8d29-38035dca9dd2"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Hartford Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Daniel Smith"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Lillian Daniel"],"publisher_tesim":["Hartford Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Witness bearing (Christianity)","Church of the Redeemer (New Haven, Conn)","United Church of Christ--Liturgics","Worship--Study and teaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["'The practice of testimony at the Church of Redeemer, United Church of Christ, New Haven, Connecticut' examines the consistent use of the practice of testimony in a mainline Protestant church over a period of three years. This practice has roots in our denominational history, but is not widely practiced in our chucrhes today. The practice of testimony strengthened lay leadership, fostered more intimate community and transformed the congregational culture. This practice led us to be more aware of other practices of the faith. It revitalized worship, and prompted changes in our liturgical life as well. The project examines the transformation within those who testified and within those who heard testimonies, and concludes that testimony has contributed to the vitality of our Christian community and will continue to do so."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Hartford Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8e52e4c8-38b6-4846-872d-a744b4f5725d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799720111672655872,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:00:47.222Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:15:31Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:04:47Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f6e1d876-4fa6-46ff-95f3-b95862c46e21","accessControl_ssim":["191b18bc-28c5-494e-a177-07d17acd5b44"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Leadership without direction: the challenge of ministering to a congregation through its process of self-definition"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:15:31Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:11:12Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6dbe8fa1-058c-4dff-9fc6-49ec6b164cf2"],"hasLease_ssim":["f76a7233-71d9-47fa-b5aa-fafb3999b00d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Hartford Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Carl S Dudley"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Terasa G Cooley"],"publisher_tesim":["Hartford Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Unitarian churches","Planning","Unitarian Society of Hartford (Hartford, Conn)","Leadership--Religious aspects"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project reflects upon the efficacy of mission/vision and strategic planning processes that have taken place within the Unitarian Society of Hartford since the year 2000, as well as analyzing my role, authority and function as the Senior Minister of this congregation during these intensive change processes.
