Double binds occur when one is internally conflicted and not able to turn any direction without negative consequences.  For episcope' one double bind is absence of a shared authority.  Another is the presence of a divided constituency.  The third is the absence of a sense of God or the holy purpose for the work. The project took place at the First Congregational Church, Wallingford, Connecticut, in nine sessions over six months.  Sessions guided participants through Pauline texts while considering the 'overlap' of scripture with congregational life today. Participants learned leadership skills to implement their insights. Short-term feedback was generally positive. What was borne out by previous research held true for this project: a television ministry doesn't increase church membership.  However, our research has demonstrated that people do watch religious programming, and with those who have participated in this ministry, we have forged informal links of church. As a result of the project the Waterbury Baptist Ministries church members' self esteem increased and their level of hopelessness decreased, thus finding their place of service in the church. Furthermore, the number of descendants of early Chinese immigrants has markedly increased. This paper summarizes the history of these Chinese people and their struggles as immigrants because of differences in background and culture.  It also examines the history of the Chinese Christian Churches in the United States, the challenges that they faced, the lessons to be learned from these challenges. The use of the liturgical year as the operative framework allowed new members to be introduced to the basic worship life of the church.  The Revised Common Lectionary provided a biblical foundation which was compared and contrasted with Congregational principles as described in Arthur Rouner's The Congregational way of life. The renewed understanding of what it means to be a member of a Congregational church has strengthened the covenant fellowship, which continues to
