The author employs the principle of dialogue in communication to substantiate this conclusion.  He supplements the use of this principle with a theology of revelation and with the word of God.  Paramount to this principle of dialogue is self-disclosure, which is made possible through the mutual sharing of meanings from the life experiences of both the proclaimer and the hearer. There will be concentration on teaching new communication skills which will allow the members to relate to each other more effectively.  The hypothesis of this paper is: 1. facilitation with the members of a small local community will increase skills in communication, problem solving, sharing of feelings, confronting and challenging each other on issues significant to them, and 2. the group will be enabled to reduce its conflict and enhance its relational skills in a three-month period. Its basic thesis is that a minister possessing minimal counseling training can effectively prepare couples for marriage by adherence to its design.  The theological grounding of the project is pastoral and process and it contains a critical examination of the role of the church in marriage.  In addition, an extensive survey of other methods of preparing couples for marriage is presented. Workshop materials were predicated on theological, psychological and communication principles.  Couples, attending workshops in four churches, prepared communication goals on a graded scale to achieve in three months. Sixteen of twenty-one couples returned the scales to me.  I processed and interpreted the results.
