The result is an abandonment by the ELCA of sinners to their own devices, rather than a call to repentance and the Word of encouragement to the amendment of life.  ELCA preachers can and must preach to this situation for the sake of implicated sinners. The fifty fastest growing congregations were examined.  The difference between the attendence-to-baptized ratios for larger and smaller churches was .8 percent: 30.6 percent and 31.4 percent, respectively.  There is no real difference in participation based on size.  Approximately 32 percent of the baptized belong to the 10 percent of churches which are larger.  41 of the 50 fastest growing churches were larger churches with multiple staffs.
