The word of God of God embodied in narrative sermons continues the ministry of Jesus the healer. Listeners can be invited through narrative sermons to find points of connection between their lives and the lives of biblical characters.  Biblical characters can serve as archetypal figures in the lives of listeners. The author's thesis is that preaching based on story or image evokes meaning by connecting the shape of the liturgical celebration with the shape of individual, communal, and pastoral 'liturgies after the liturgy.' Members of the congregation helped to form the sermons, discerning with the author the patterns of the biblical story, the liturgical event, and the stories of their lives.
