Yet they know little or nothing at all about the beliefs and practices of each other.  Both claim to embody a universal message intended by God for the salvation of humankind.  How do both diagnose the human situation? What is the saving work of God that both believe and proclaim would change the human situation and restore authentic humanity?  What do they have in common? How do they differ?  The purpose of this project has been to explore possible answers to these key questions and to do pastoral reflection on such answers. The thesis seeks to develop an appropriate understanding of the saving work of God in both religious communities and proposes dialogue as a way to share theological insights. This paper records what happened when the author added extra music, stories and objects one at a time to the sermon delivery.  One week later listeners filled out questionnaires. The responses to sermons delivered without the extra element were compared to the responses of sermons delivered without the extra element. The author discusses how this spirit leads the preacher to open up her or his private world to the stranger.  Sermon discussion groups, interviews, and journal writing were used to uncover what is helpful and what is not helpful when preaching among people who are not connected by common history or tradition, nor by ties of friendship of family. Employing the language of personality and temperament types as a vehicle for discussion, a strategy is suggested which brings preacher and hearers together in a small group format, enabling each to enhance their skills in hearing the Word of God by listening to one another. When a congregation regularly hears sermons intentionally focused on drawing people into and nourishing them in the Christian life and community (called inducement preaching), the church community is revitalized and an atmosphere and context are produced for hearers to be evangelists as a natural outgrowth of their Christian life and in the context of their church
