The definition of 'pastor' as leader of the congregation is often defined by what he does rather than who he is. It is the thesis of this paper that the pastor as leader must be a confessor, a spiritual witness to the gospel which he/she proclaims. Dietrich Bonhoeffer's writings are utilized as ministry and congregational roles are explored. Also, various twentieth-century theologians and secular authors are cited for the study. The conclusion states that both pastor and congregation need to re-affirm and re-vitalize spiritual disciplines of faith as together they develop ministry for the local church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["d722638c-a7e2-43f3-93ff-4762bde0dde7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133941456961536,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:27:17.211Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:58:30Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:22:08Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"73ffe82f-4333-4463-b05e-78cb529fd4ed","accessControl_ssim":["05f4869f-5f2b-4131-8cab-aac74b5198e5"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Experience and theological reflection: an inductive and deductive model"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:58:29Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:32:01Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["0976e828-302e-4c11-9610-b8132d892716"],"hasLease_ssim":["b13f7f08-346c-415a-80af-894415e8346b"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"advisor_tesim":["Morris J Niedenthal"],"year_tesim":["1993"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Christian H Launer"],"publisher_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"subject_tesim":["Reflection (Theology)","Experience (Religion)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The focus of this paper is the exploration of emotion and intellectual experience within a framework of theological reflection."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["d722638c-a7e2-43f3-93ff-4762bde0dde7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133620568588288,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:22:11.188Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:58:30Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:26:27Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d22e3b50-0193-486a-bb20-5d6216d76a8a","accessControl_ssim":["8fef4d95-8b3d-4717-ba14-60f2b93aa6af"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Leadership for church vitality"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:58:29Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:08:18Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["48e9d3b6-bb35-4a01-9ccf-3d60368c3863"],"hasLease_ssim":["f6d6a476-6fc7-4a92-96e7-3fb9a9be1ab9"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"advisor_tesim":["Larry L Foster"],"year_tesim":["1993"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Mark A Weber"],"publisher_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Clergy--Office","Church renewal"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This paper looks at the question of pastoral leadership as the pastor and the congregation try to develop greater vitality in the congregation. Part two is an attempt of the self-defined pastor giving the congregation a self-definition through the discovery and use of spiritual gifts."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["d722638c-a7e2-43f3-93ff-4762bde0dde7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134106054033408,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:29:54.183Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:58:02Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:16:22Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"0a62b7b8-f97e-4af2-86cd-72f559a8af57","accessControl_ssim":["557cf341-631f-4d2a-9c45-aeb943360ef7"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Engaging in preaching and opening up the preacher and congregation to different genres in the church's ministry of proclamation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:58:01Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:24:38Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["140b4eec-37e5-4250-bd9c-0cd9c54a9f39"],"hasLease_ssim":["8d2bfa40-5b50-4856-a90d-ef336ce604b7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"advisor_tesim":["Morris J Niedenthal"],"year_tesim":["1993"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Richard M Mokry"],"publisher_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"subject_tesim":["Preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This study focuses on the dynamics that contribute to engagement in preaching, when people have the sense of participating in an experience with God. Engaging preaching attends to a network of relationships including God, the text, the preacher, and the congregation. Four genres are examined as vehicles for engagement: the narrative, the character sketch, the group study, and the monologue. Results indicate the congregation experiences a positive degree of engagement when the preacher attends to connected relationships. Genres effect engagement by offering distinctive listening experiences.
