These values provide themes for a contextual theology distinctive to the region.  The paper looks at one northern Virginian congregation, which professes a classic, confessional theology.  It concludes that the congregation's theology and ministry are contextualized. They are viewed as often congruent but also dissonant with the congregation's received tradition. This paper begins by examining how faith has been separated from life. The solutions offered to correct this shortcoming include the roles of pastor and the Christian community.  Also included are the use of experiential educational methods which involve the whole faith community together with projects, storytelling, and ritual to inculcate the Christian faith in the lives of church members.  Library research is the primary form of study for this project in areas of spirituality, liberation theology, educational theory, psychology, and developmental psychology. The thesis summarizes work done in foundations of gestalt therapy, a pastoral care model presented by Clebsch and Jaekle (healing, sustaining, guiding, reconciling), and primary chemical dependency treatment (utilizing the Minnesota Model).  The author then presents case illustrations dealing with an individual stuck in past history, a  family with communication difficulties, a couple trapped by the past, a grief experience, and an individual seeking a sense of safety. Included are my own personal experiences in the parish ministry dealing with inactivity within the congregation. Study was undertaken of works on symbol and metaphor at the library and with professors.
