The project conducted three seminars for church leaders concerning child abuse and its effects, self-esteem among black males, and substance abuse. These mentors were paired with seven first offenders referred by the juvenile court. Seven individuals were trained to teach in three designated religious groups.  Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormonism and the New Age movement were studied through lectures, field trips, audiovisual materials, private research and personal interviews.  The seven individuals trained seventy others within the context of two Associational Interfaith Witness conferences. With basic training, a group of lay caregivers could fulfill the biblical injunction to encourage others, thereby relieving some of the counseling burden pastors now carry .  A group of twelve carefully selected members of Tiffany Fellowship Assembly of God were trained in specific caregiving skills around an 'encouraging' model of counseling.
