Modern rabbis accept those changes, and attempt to use these new roles to establish their authority in the synagogue and community. Based on extensive interviews with Jewish Theological Seminary-trained congregational rabbis in northern California, the nature of that authority is studied.  The project concludes that rabbis utilize an 'authority of process.' It examines the research data which measured changes in participants and a control group in six major areas with significant changes in only two categories.  Comparable tests with interns did not show similar results.
