In this dissertation the author surveyed and interviewed missionaries to determine what spiritual disciplines most helped them stay effective in their ministry. The results of this research point out certain spiritual disciplines which missionaries use to remain spiritually healthy-prayer, engaging Scripture, worship, fellowship, and service.  Other disciplines were done to a lesser extent.  There was also recognition by the missionaries that workload, busyness, one's environment, and cross-cultural living impacted the effective practice of those disciplines. What was done in the area of motivation to equip the congregation to become as evangelistically minded as it was effective in the implementation of evangelism? The project showed what happens when the total congregation becomes involved in witnessing for Christ. Using a survey of missiological literature, an examination of the christological background and three models of the incarnation developed from Johannine, Pauline and Matthean literature, a concept of incarnational mission is formed and applied to Australia as described in its historical, social and religious setting. Demonstrating the interrelationship between effective contextual mission, Christ-centered worship, and koinonia/body life, he developed a project that sought to enhance all three functions.  By means of the ministry of the Word, the 'Balligo Church Advance', and the systems models approach to pastoral leadership, the pastor and church became effectively involved in contextual mission. Library research, interviews, and class notes provided the theological basis for this thesis/project. 'Servant evangelism' is explored from a biblical perspective and advocated as a model for today's church.  Emphasis is given to North American Baptist Conference churches, the author's denomination. The approach taken includes: 1. Surveying 110 NAB churches; 2. Interviewing six pastors (4 NAB and 2 others); 3. Teaching a class on servant evangelism in the author's home church.  Class outlines for these ten sessions are included in an appendix. Additional chapters focus on biblical and theological perspectives; teaching and promoting servant evangelism in the church; evaluation and suggestions for further application.
