It is an experience lamented by conservative evangelical and fundamentalist leaders as a step toward apostasy. But deconstruction is also a vital practice of those seeking to retain an authentic spirituality while challenging the authoritative and often regressive doctrines and practices of their traditional church. The goal of faith reconstruction is a revitalized, more compassionate, progressive, and inclusive belief system; one that rejects ancient perspectives of an angry God and embraces a perspective of a more loving and gracious God.The act of ministry at the heart of this doctoral thesis project was implementing the “Evolving Faiths Discussion Group” in an inter-denominational church in Norman, Oklahoma. The goal was to provide a “safe space” where Christians from fundamentalist and evangelical backgrounds could openly discuss their questions and doubts about the faith they inherited, and explore more palatable alternative theologies. The intent was to provide a regular place and time, resources, and fellow deconstructors to explore those concerns. The desired outcome was that the participants would continue faith exploration as a life-long journey, become comfortable with questions as normative of spiritual health, and experience an enhanced connection with God and the world (3Cs).The project engaged in action research, and employed adapted elements from heuristic phenomenology and ethnography. The thesis examines a recent social history of the “Fall of American evangelicalism,” and the “Rise of the Spiritual But Not Religious.” It constructs a biblical defense of deconstruction, describes the implementation of the Discussion Group, presents an analysis of five core evangelical themes as they affected the participants with a composite summary of the group experience as a whole, and concludes with some pastoral reflections.
https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing
deposited
Miscellaneous
4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a
open
Metadata Only
rim.ir.atla.com
Etd
public","work_editor
admin
ckarpinski@atla.com
["Etd
1950e241-881f-4114-bd45-c571146d4c32
9df58640-3807-492a-bb74-a07c5d09a612
ckarpinski@atla.com
ckarpinski@atla.com
Training Church Members For Personal Evangelism In A Secular Post-Christian Context
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8
90533afb-42ea-497c-aa37-0d2b525671c8
d29d530c-6f8f-4443-a62a-65b048fae16b
1
1
Atla RIM
Doctor of Ministry
Leadership and Management
Trinity International University
Jonathan Y. Although he conducted the field work during COVID-19 lockdowns and disruption that goal was substantially achieved. Biblical study, theological reflection, and sociological insights formed the foundation for the author’s development of the training course. That research shaped a congregational survey regarding attitudes to personal evangelism, which in turn fed into an expert sample of ministry leaders and evangelistic trainers. In the light of these inputs the author wrote and piloted a four-week evangelistic training course. Course participant responses enabled the author to make a preliminary assessment regarding the effectiveness of the training course. The author then suggested a trajectory along which he could develop the course, and supplement it with additional support and resources. He also mapped out a ministry plan for the construction of an evangelistic ecosystem within a local church, incorporating an adapted version of the piloted course alongside additional groups and further input. The needs identified in this project regarding evangelistic training were greater than could be met in a short four-week course, but the author identified sufficient reasons for confidence that, alongside further ministry inputs, such a course could play a vital part in shifting a church’s culture in a more evangelistic direction.
https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing
deposited
Miscellaneous
4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a
open
Metadata Only
rim.ir.atla.com
Etd
work_editor","public
admin
ckarpinski@atla.com
["Etd
7a55cd8c-5fd5-40de-84e6-18f445723d47
900218f7-c3a0-49b6-8cac-77d3416e70ee
ckarpinski@atla.com
ckarpinski@atla.com
Revealing the Unknown God: Acts 17:16-34 as Luke's Paradigm for Evangelism in a Biblically Illiterate Culture
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8
4a140d66-06e2-4c08-8d22-ab5d4e97e5e2
dd48e452-addf-4e53-9442-bc6f982b3839
1
1
Atla RIM
Master of Arts
Contemporary Church Leadership
University of Chester
2015
United Kingdom
Dissertation
Text
Timothy Paul Wilson M.A.
Evangelism--Theory","Evangelism--Study and Teaching","Evangelism
Bible. In the first section, two arguments against seeing Acts 17:16-34 as a Lucan paradigm are examined. Chapter two examines the arguments of those who claim that this speech is in no way an example of Pauline preaching but is rather the work of Luke or some later redactor. It is argued that there are no ultimately persuasive reasons to accept this view of the reliability of the speech. Chapter three presents the ideas of those who believe that the speech was a failure on the basis of issues such as the small number of converts and insights from the early Chapters of 1 Corinthians. These commentators believe Paul later repented of the approach he took at Athens. Again the essay examines these arguments and ultimately concludes that there is no reason to see the speech as anything other than successful. Section two asks what example Acts 17:16-34 sets for readers. Commentators have differed over their understanding of what Paul is doing here. Some argue that the speech represents a work of assimilation with Greek philosophy, others a critique of Greek idolatry and other groups some combination of the two. This essay will argue for a contextualised critique methodology. It sees critique as Paul’s primary purpose in the speech but acknowledges the way that his message is contextualised to be understandable to his hearers.
https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/
https://www.academia.edu/attachments/80431137/download_file?st=MTY0NDMzNjE3OSw4Ni4xNjguMTM4LjExNiwyNjMyMDAxNA%3D%3D&s=profile&ct=MTY0NDMzNjE4MCwxNjQ0MzM5MTM2LDI2MzIwMDE0
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing
deposited
Miscellaneous
4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a
open
Metadata Only
rim.ir.atla.com
Etd
public","work_editor
admin
ckarpinski@atla.com
["Etd
b6eef799-d729-4c92-b118-505525638ffc
8aba7442-9b04-44b5-858a-4e4e22d62891
ckarpinski@atla.com
ckarpinski@atla.com
Indigenous African Demonic Deliverance and its Transference into Pentecostalism with Subsequent Refining: Ghana and its Diaspora as a Case Study
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8
19d7e87a-69b9-44d1-aa34-35636948c9a0
43dda8af-7330-4029-83dc-8e1b0aa6b9c7
1
1
Atla RIM
Master of Arts
Intercultural Studies
Taylor Seminary
Allan Effa Ph.D.
2015
South Africa","Africa","Ghana","Canada
Other Terminal Project
Text
Duane Sterling Sims M.A.
Bible. The methods and language used to frame giving within worship have led to exploitation resulting in unwillingness to wholeheartedly participate in giving as an element of worship. The literature addressing giving and the biblical interpretations are lacking in accurately speaking to the issues that arise in applying Old and New Testament scripture to address giving as an element of worship. There are a growing number of articles attempting to address the covetous nature involved in the methods and language used in inviting people to give to God. This work evaluated the giving practice in Blessed Harvest Institute by evaluating some Old and New Testament scriptures and determining how the interpretations are to be applied in the methods and language used to frame the giving experience in the worship service. Leviticus 27:30-33, Deuteronomy 14:22-29, Malachi 3, Acts 3-5, 2 Corinthians 8-9, and other scriptures were used to understand the methods and language of giving biblically. Giving is to be a freewill expression of worship executed in an environment of liberty. It is necessary to reframe the concept of tithing not to be an obligation but a personal choice to express worship to God. Any prompting will remove worship from giving. Worship is a free expression that must be voluntary; therefore, giving must be voluntarily expressed, not grudgingly, by compulsion or of necessity, in order to be an element of worship.
https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/
https://digitalcommons.gardner-webb.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1002&context=divinity_etd
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing
deposited
Miscellaneous
4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a
open
Metadata Only
rim.ir.atla.com
Etd
public","work_editor
admin
ckarpinski@atla.com
["Etd
c82afbc7-2a02-425b-ba39-c5b9495d4557
678e6565-0eea-4159-9a4a-d988631c89e7
ckarpinski@atla.com
ckarpinski@atla.com
Transforming Attitudes and Commitment to Missions at the Mt. Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church in Greenville, South Carolina. The goal of transformation was to guide the congregation's mission practices to be exemplary of its 'Missionary' name and the overall mission of the church as discovered in Luke-Acts and in the Abrahamic Covenant. The project tested the attitudes and commitment to missions from the Missionary Society in comparison to the general congregation. The project revealed both strengths and weaknesses in the attitudes and commitments of the Missionary Society and the congregation about missions. The research from the project revealed that there were strong contradictions between the findings from the surveys completed by the project participants and the content from the discussions during the training exercises. One of the three primary goals was achieved outright, and several secondary goals emerged as a result of the project; particularly the creation of a strategic plan to assess and evaluate the future mission practices of the church.
https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/
https://digitalcommons.gardner-webb.edu/divinity_etd/15/
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing
deposited
Miscellaneous
4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a
open
Metadata Only
rim.ir.atla.com
Etd
public","work_editor
admin
ckarpinski@atla.com
["Etd
b7aa9ee5-37f6-4fa9-a3be-00d4c98dae8b
3507ea3a-556b-409c-8d13-3e27e14e8e2d
ckarpinski@atla.com
ckarpinski@atla.com
Equipping the congregation of East Belmont Baptist Church in Belmont, N.C. for outreach through the development and implementation of an active prayer ministry.
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8
b70da4ee-c990-4134-88a0-bd77d76968a6
fec44d08-c283-40a3-8cfc-4f10bab48c71
1
1
Atla RIM
Doctor of Ministry
Christian Ministry
Gardner-Webb University
Hebert Palomino Ph.D.
2019
North Carolina
Dissertation
Text
Jeffrey Dean Taylor
Bible.
