Through the use of two case studies, one medical and one biblical, this thesis explores new ways of thinking through ethical challenges at the bedside. Drawing primarily on H. Richard Niebuhr's theological ethics, virtue ethics, and postmodern analysis, this thesis constructs a contextual, postmodern practical theology of bioethics. It proposes new ministry practices in bioethics. It calls for collaboration among bioethical methods to create a fitting response to challenging situations. Establishment of a dialogue around ethical issues between those engaged in biotechnological research and members of the ethics/religious communities would provide a forum for exploration of shared issues.  The author presents such a model through establishment of a dialogue between researchers from the Monsanto Company and a heterogeneous group of religious leaders from the St Louis, Mo area.
