Field testing within the Northern California Conference of the United Church of Christ is chronicled and critiqued through six case studies. The study concludes that the Mbarara Diocese's Eucharistic Centers' program does not accord with the ecclesiology of the small-community movement.  It contributes to the basic ecclesial community goals of the diocese by clarifying the theological and pastoral nature of the small-community movement as applied to Mbarara.  It suggests key issues which need to be dealt with in formulating a viable small-community program for the diocese, notably those related to the need for in-depth reflection about how current parish structures and leadership models should be modified to accommodate a BEC program.
