The criteria to measure this are theological soundness, liturgical consistency, and pastoral effectiveness.  This study includes an overview of cultural and church responses to divorce, a comparison of Catholic and Lutheran theologies of marriage, an exegesis of biblical divorce texts, a local study assessing participants' evaluation of a ritual experience, and a theological discussion applying a theologia crucis and the law and gospel paradigm to the issue. The emotional impact upon children and parents is presented. The biblical-theological foundations of post-divorce adjustment are viewed with the aspect of forgiveness as a primary element in adjustment and decreasing stress in the post-divorce period.  Research was accomplished through a library survey of behavioral science and legal data, along with interviews of family counselors and judges. The group was conducted through the Samaritan Pastoral Counseling Center of Nacogdoches, Texas, for a period of seven weeks.  Twelve people chose to participate in the group led by the writer.  Presentations were also made by a pastoral counselor and clinical psychologist. Each session included an opportunity for group members to share their problems with one another.
