Chapter one describes the post-Vatican II Catholic identity controversy. Chapter two explores the inclusive spirit of Vatican II as the theological foundation for this model of ministry. Chapter three describes the learning design incorporating five Catholic identity themes that enable inclusive exploration of Catholic identity. Chapter four discusses the results of an evaluation experience in which participants sampled activities from the curriculum. Chapter five identifies recommendations for further development. An analysis was done of the practice in Nebraska from 2000 to 2009. The knowledge and skill sets required by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry of the United Methodist Church nationally were also analyzed. The current Nebraska practices and the national sets recommended were compared to best practice as seen in entry level seminary preaching courses. This project proposes that the class-leader system can be a viable part of the AME Church, but it must be modified and shaped into a contemporary mechanism for ministry.  Lack of training of class leaders in Allen Chapel AME Church, Northampton County, North Carolina, proved to be the rule rather than the exception. The church was thereby rendered ineffective in its ministry. The project seeks practical ways to equip class leaders of Allen Chapel AME Church for effective ministry by formulating and administering a training program for class leaders. The process aimed to assist principals in Catholic education to identify their own faith development needs and to clarify their ministry in today's cultural climate.  The process was developed with seven principals in the Halton Roman Catholic School Board (Burlington, Ontario) from June 1990 to June 1991.
