The author chose the season of Lent to preach a series of sermons in his congregation on the subject of fasting. Part of the analysis is based on a personal journal kept by the author over a period of 35 weeks.  Other analysis is based upon data collected from 48 randomly chosen students at Bible Teachers Institute in Virginia Beach, Virginia.  They were asked to complete a two-part survey on their practice and perception of fasting. The methodology reflects the utilization of pre-fast and post-fast multiple choice questionnaires designed to test spiritual concerns, attitudes, and knowledge pertaining to fasting.
