Grieving friends and clients living in the rural tri-county area of southeast Virginia were at a loss when it came to finding local grief support group or classes. Evaluated using qualitative research methodology, the results indicate that this process encourages and enables persons to reflect on their experiences, discovering new possibilities for enhancing funeral ministry in both individual and corporate areas. He suggests specific contributions by lay ministers that enhance the effectiveness of the funeral rites.  The thesis correlates the rich content of Christian tradition with contemporary cultural experience of death and bereavement. By the analysis of interviews with those engaged ministerially with the OCF, the author illustrates the motivation, the preparation, and the support required for engagement in this ministry. The desire of the study was to make available material, and instruction which would help to prepare the practical materials, providing information for the survivors of the deceased listing the desires of the deceased for his or her bodily disposal.
